Mpumi now a renowned musician was born in Ndwedwe, rural of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa
in 19, January 1982. Born the forth of six children, she was given a name Nompumelelo
Claudia Mzobe. She grew up in her birthplace Ndwedwe and later in her teens relocated to
Ntuzuma Township, where she completed her matric in 1999. Mpumi studied at Durban University of Technology and graduated in Diploma Video Technology (Television studies) in 2005. She joined Committed Artists International under the Mbongeni Ngema Academy of Performing Arts in 2001, a learnership where she got professional training in music, dance and acting from a theatre veteran Mbongeni Ngema. In 2003, she worked with Duma kaNdlovu on a musical theatre show entitled `The Journey’ which showcased in Zurich, Switzerland. Mpumi joined the South African Broadcasting Corporation in 2004 as a Post Production Sound Mixer. Mpumi's break in the music industry was in 2013 with a song entitled ‘Wena’ which she wrote and sang as a featured artist in Heavy K’s album entitled Drumboss. The song was an instant hit and a club banger, it topped charts in South Africa and beyond. ‘Wena’ success saw it being nominated at the Metro Awards 2014 in the category of the record of the year and at the South African Music Awards 20 in the same category. Mpumi sealed her mark in the music industry
when she wrote and sang other charts topping hits entitled ‘Somandla’, ‘Busa’ by Euphonik &
Bob Eezy ft Mpumi, and ‘Umoya’ by Heavy K, ft Professor and Mpumi. ‘Busa’ was also nominated at the Metro fm Awards 2015 in the category of the record of the year, at the South
African Music Awards XXI and the MTVMAMA2015 in the same category. Her music has seen
her perform not only in South Africa, but also in Botswana, Angola, Nigeria, Portugal, Zambia
and Mozambique amongst other countries through her management representative Helem
Productions. In 2013 Mpumi graduated in BA, Communication Science from University of South Africa.
