Booth Abavuki Marimba Band Cc
South Africa - Cape Town
Beverley started her career as an Electrical Engineer working for IBM, moving on from there into adult education and management consulting.
She started working with Mountain Records (Robbie Jansen, Pacific Express, The Genuines, Zayn Adam etc.) in the early ‘90’s and took on the management of Amampondo, touring Europe with them on several occasions. She still works with Dizu Plaatjies and his Ibuyambo Ensemble, organising all his International tours.
In 2002 she met Abavuki, a young marimba and brass band from Langa and has been working with them ever since. To date they have released 5 albums, 4 of which were self- produced and funded. The group has travelled to China, Scandinavia, the Middle East and this year completed a 2 month tour of Europe which resulted from their showcase at Womex14. They are working on a new album to be released next year.
In 2012 she took over the management of the African Dance Theatre in Long Street Cape Town which ran as a collective, with all the artists involved taking a share of the profits, rather than being paid a salary.
Currently she is planning Abavuki’s International trips for 2016.
